For owners Noyan Atamer and Kimberley Alford, Delight has been a dream project, finally come to fruition. “We have wanted to open our own place for about five years,” says Noyan, who has a 20-year background in hospitality, most recently working in front of house and cellar door sales at Cable Bay Vineyard in Church Bay.
"Delight is about the best of Turkish cuisine to suit the New Zealand palate with Greek and Morrocan flavours." says Noyan. "We love the space here with the views out over Oneroa and the warm welcoming feel" adds Kimberley.
Open now since October 2010, the all day and takeaway menus feature a range of Turkish and Greek inspired treats. Breakfast includes classic New Zealand favourites as well as popular tagine style breakfasts - perfect for starting your day with a touch of spice. The evening menu (summer only - from Labour Weekend) typically features a mix of tagines and mezzes – small tasty dishes – using eggplant in season, fried calamari, chargrilled meats, Greek salads served with homemade Turkish flat breads.
Born in Istanbul but raised in Izmir on the Aegean Coast, the food at Delight will reflect Noyan’s home region which, with its proximity to Greece and the sea, specialises in vegetable dishes, skewered kebabs and delicious tapas style mezze tasters. And reflecting one of Kimberley’s former occupations as a professional belly dancer, the couple have hosted musical belly dancing nights, and private functions.
A wonderful combination of New Zealand and Turkish flavours, delicious freshly roasted Allpress coffee, Delight is popular with locals as well as visitors to Waiheke.
